Why can't I access [database] from off-campus?
Help! I'm trying to access a database from off-campus and I can't get in. Why won't it work?
Answer
It's always tricky to determine why a database isn't working correctly from off-campus. There are many reasons this could be happening. Here are some quick things to check:
- Are you using a VPN?
- Some VPNS cause our database links to work incorrectly.
- Try turning off the VPN, refreshing the page with the link, and see if you can access the database.
- FPU Forticlient users should now be able to access library resources while the VPN is running. If you have problems please contact the library.
- Are you behind a workplace or healthcare firewall?
- Some firewalls can cause our database links to work incorrectly.
- See if you can access our resources from home or on a device which is located outside of the firewall.
- Is the link correct?
- We all make typing mistakes, sometimes links get incorrectly typed or pasted.
- Try going to the library's database page and see if that links works for you.
- Is your browser up to date?
- If your browser is old, or hasn't been updated in a while see this page for information on updating your browser.
If none of these work for you, contact us! The error may be with us or one of our database providers.
